Motion City Soundtrack Bassist Matt TaylorNovember 17, 2005 Formed in Minneapolis during 1999, Motion City Soundtrack has experienced raising success and is now primed to make a serious dent in the charts. They have recently released their second full-length album and are seeing a great deal of success. Their current video, "Everything is Alright", is getting steady play on MTV and many major radio stations across the county. Currently touring with Fall Out Boy for the Nintendo Fusion Tour, the band was obviously a hit with the sold out crowd at the Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bassist and backing vocalist Matt answered a few questions before the show. NL: How has the tour been going so far? Matt: Great. It's been a long one and is towards the tail end. It's the first one in awhile and it's been a lot of fun. NL: You have toured with Blink 182 in a past tour. Was it their last one before breaking up? Matt: No, they played again after that tour, but it wasn't too long before. NL: When you were on tour with them guys befriended their bassist Mark Hoppus and he became your producer for your current album "Commit This to Memory". How did this happen and how has he influenced your new album? Matt: When we toured with him he mentioned to us that he wanted to produce. We kind of all looked at each other and thought it would be great if he produced ours. Josh went in and asked him if he wanted to do it and he said yes. NL: As for any noticeable influence he had on your new album that fans can look out for? Matt: There were a couple parts where he recommended dropping the vocals and only having them instrumental. Basically, as he puts it, letting our music "breath" a little. NL: I read that your first video was shot with friends from back home in Minneapolis and also that you guys have a big following back there. A lot of bands love the home crowd, but I've met bands before that really don't talk overly highly about their local fan base. Do you feel a special tie to your fans in Minnesota? And why do you think some bands lose that connection? Matt: Well the band grew up there and we have a good size following there. We owe it to them to not forget they play a big role in our band. It would be kinda rude. Some bands just don't do that well in their hometown area so they don't feel obligated to go out of their way to recognize those people. NL: Are you even thinking about the next album yet? Matt: I mean we know that come summer next year we will be back in the studio. I love being in the studio. It's a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it. NL: What is your favorite thing about success? Matt: Success is a really weird word. It's hard to know what it means because there are so many levels of it. . I'm always happy with what we do. If this is as big as we get than I would still be happy, but as a band we don't set any limits. We want to be as successful as possible. It is still strange to hear people recognize me and get excited. It's fun but it is really not that huge of a deal to me. NL: Thanks.
