American Eyes Interview

March 25, 2006 - Hollywood, CA

Interview with “American Eyes” David Henry (vocals), Oliver Gold (drums), and Brent Richardson (guitar)

NL: How long have you guys been playing together?

American Eyes: We have been playing music together since Jr. High.

NL: Has the current line up stayed the same over all of those years?

American Eyes: No. The three of us have been together for the entire time but our base player and guitar player have changed quite a bit.

NL: Any particular reason why you have gone through so many guitar players?

American Eyes: Well, most of the changes took place after high school. We all had to decide whether we were going to go to college or live with each other in a dirty van 300 days out of the year. We chose the van. The current line up has been together for the last 2 years.

NL: So where are you guys from?

American Eyes: Right here in the Los Angeles area.

NL: So where was your favorite place to play in the L.A. area before you guys started touring nationally?

American Eyes: Actually, this place (the Key Club), was the only club in Hollywood that would let us play back in the day.

NL: So this must be a show you have been looking forward to for a while?

American Eyes: Yeah definitely, we have been on the road for a while and haven’t played L.A. in over 6 months so we are glad to be here.

NL: What bands are you currently touring with?

American Eyes: Tonight is our first and only show with MxPx. For the last couple of months we have been on the Taste of Chaos Tour a lot of bands including Thrice, Deftones, Story of the Year ,and Atreyu.

NL: Where are you guys going from here?

American Eyes: We have a little break after tonight than its up in the air. We have dates set for Warper Tour this summer and between now and then we will be playing stints on various tours including 30 Seconds to Mars.

NL: How many years have you been playing Warped Tour?

American Eyes: This will be our 4th year on the tour.

NL: What is the name of your latest release?

American Eyes: "Never Trust Anything that Bleeds" came out in October.

NL: That is pretty recent, you probably aren't thinking about the next album yet?

American Eyes: Actually, we are hoping to release another album in August.

NL: Wow. So what are you guys listening to these days?

American Eyes: David- Been listening to a lot of post-punk goth music and other bands such as Outhouse, the Misfits and Placebo.
Oliver- Queens of the Stone Age.

NL: What is the most unusual show you have played?

American Eyes: We once played a Bar Mitz Va.

NL: Thanks for your time and for helping me kick the drinking habit.
